MGIMO Holds First World Forum in Baku

Today, April 12, Baku is hosting I World Forum of the Moscow State International Relations Institute (MGIMO) graduates. The forum is attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva, AzerTAj reports.

The event involves officials from Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Moldova, Poland, Slovakia, Cuba, South Korea, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam etc, as well as representatives of prestigious international organizations and businesses. In general, the forum has brought together over 400 representatives, including Azerbaijani graduates living and working in Azerbaijan and abroad.

President Aliyev has made opening remarks at the Forum which is running under slogan "Together toward the future". Addressing the event, MGIMO rector, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly Torkunov read a congratulatory letter of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the participants.

“Over the past decade, a brilliant constellation of professionals, broadly educated, creative people, diplomats and politicians, public figures and journalists, scientists and businessmen came out from the walls of the MGIMO,” the president wrote. “All of you are united by the warmest feelings for teachers, fellow students, with your ‘alma mater’, which is rightly famous for its traditions and atmosphere of fraternity.”

Following him, head of the Rosssotrudnichestvo, Russian President's special envoy on CIS affairs, member of the MGIMO Council of Trustees Konstantin Kosachev read the congratulatory letter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The forum focuses on education, energy and ecological criteria in stable development in the global economy and the role of civil institutions, media union and business in addressing international issues. MGIMO will mark the 70th anniversary in 2014. It has 8 faculties and 6 institutes with about 6,000 students from Russia and 64 foreign states. It teaches 53 foreign languages – a world record.
