120th Anniversary of Mayakovsky’s Birth Celebrated in Moscow

Every year, on April 14, the State Vladimir Mayakovsky Museum celebrates the anniversary of the poet’s birth, the portal culture.ru report. This year, the museum is to introduce a new site – Chekhov House – coinciding the project with Mayakovsky’s 120th anniversary.

The new exhibition space is to host the display “The Mayakovskys”, which is to feature the poet’s photographs, personal letters, family manuscripts and personal items. The exhibition covers Mayakovsky’s childhood and youth which he spent in the Georgian village of Bagdadi; the exhibition will also tell about the poet’s first years in Moscow.

In addition, the main building of the Mayakovsky Museum is to hold traditional events: excursions telling about the poet’s life and works, projection of the silent film “The Young Lady and the Hooligan” based on Mayakovsky’s scenario, and concerts by the bands Aloe and Lyubo performing songs based on Mayakovsky’s poetry.

The Theatre of Poets is to hold readings of poetry, with participation of Russian and foreign artists as well as students of Tabakov’s Studio Theatre.

As part of the commemoration, the Museum is to host the performance “Mayakovsky. Top Secret” telling the story of the poet’s life and death. The performance is staged by Maria Shmalevich. When working on the staging, she used materials of the investigation, hearings of witnesses and texts written by the poet.

The exhibition ‘The Mayakovskys” is to open at the Chekhov House on April 14 at 5pm, situated in 29-4 Malaya Dmitrovka Street. The exhibition is open to visitors all week week from 10 am to 6 pm with exception of Monday and Tuesday.
