15.04.2013

April 15 marks 80 years since the birth of science-fiction writer Boris Strugatsky, who died late last year in St. Petersburg. Friends and admirers of the writer will gather today at the Center of Modern Literatures and Books in St. Petersburg for a memorial evening. The program includes a photography exhibit by Pavel Markin called ‘Boris Strugatsky at 80’, a concert and a film screening the website of the Administration of St. Petersburg reports.

In honor of the 80th anniversary of Boris Strugatsky’s birth, a complete collection of the works of the Strugatsky brothers is being published. The edition has been compiled in a six-volume set, and Boris Strugatsky managed to participate in the project and write an introduction, Vedomosti reports.

The collection will be the largest publication on the works of Arkady and Boris Strugatsky and will include correspondence, personal dairies, essays and other previously unpublished texts.

Boris and Arkady Strugatsky were among the most famous Russian literary duos. Many of their works became classics of Russia and world science fiction. They include Hard to Be a God (1964), Roadside Picnic (1972), The Beetle and the Anthill (1980) and many others. Following the death of his brother and writing partner Arkady in 1991, Boris Strugatsky continued to write. In 2010 he penned the text for the Total Dictation test.
