Vyacheslav Nikonov: For the Law on Education to Function Properly It Will Be Necessary to Amend 180 Federal Laws

13.04.2013

The most pressing issues concerning Russian public education and amendments to the Law on Education (which is supposed to take effect this September) are being discussed in St. Petersburg at the VI session of the pedagogical forum Enlightenment in Russia: Traditions and the Challenges of a New Era. This annual form is organized by the Center of Russian National Glory.

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Chairman of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Management Board Vyacheslav Nikonov, noted that this forum is helping to consolidate commentary on the new Law on Education and introduce amendments to this legislation. “Right now it is important to have this feedback mechanism. While the law has not come into effect it is possible to ensure that its provisions truly do facilitate the development of education in our country and not causes problems in the management of this system or its substance,” Nikonov said.

He also pointed out that in order for the new law to begin functioning properly, amendments would have to be made to some 180 federal laws.
