Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev Receives German Medal

Mikhail Gorbachev has been awarded a gold medal of the Union of Pensioners of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU). This award is given for achievements in reconciliation and mutual understanding between nations, Voice of Russia reports.

The ex-President of the USSR and Nobel Peace Prizewinner is expected to receive the medal from the CDU leader, German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The ceremony is to take place on the 22nd of April.

Earlier 82-year-old Gorbachev declined an invitation to British former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s funeral pleading poor health condition.
