Russian Skiers Reach North Pole

15.04.2013

Seven days after starting off from Russia’s Barneo base on the Arctic Ice Cap, a team of young Russian skiers led by the seasoned adventurer Matvei Shparo has reached the North Pole, Voice of Russia reports.

There are ice mounds around and a gale-force wind howling amid them. The air temperature is close to minus 30 degrees Celsius. In the way of wildlife, a lonely polar bear has been spotted by the skiers.

This North Pole shot is the sixth of its kind to be carried out from the Barneo base.
