Alexander Peresvet and Temir-Murza Once Again Duel on Kulikovo Field

19.09.2012

A theatrical performance organized in commemoration of the 632 anniversary of the Battle of Kulikovo was held at the State Museum Reserve Kulikovo Field. The site of the ancient battle was filled with craftsmen and merchants, minstrels and guslars, ITAR-TASS reports.

The program included an historical re-enactment of the Battle of Kulikovo, a fencing tournament, a costume contest, massive fights and concerts.

More than six centuries following the duel to the death of Alexander Peresvet and Temir-Murza, Russian and Tatar warriors once again gathered on the battlefield. The clang of metal and cries of warriors, the thumping of hooves and baying of stallions all created the impression that this was not a game but for real.

The broken noses of several exceptionally engaged participants of the battle scenes also added to the natural feel of the event, but luckily serious injuries were avoided. The event concluded with a grandiose feast.
