Russian First to Buy iPad2 in the US

12.03.2011

Russian Alexei Shumilov became the first person to buy two iPad 2 tablets at the New York City's flagship Apple store on Fifth Avenue after hours of waiting, RIA Novosti reports.

Shumilov, 29, arrived in New York on Thursday and was camping near the Apple store for 28 hours to buy a new tablet, which went on sale in all 236 Apple stores in the United States on March 11.

"I was not seeking fame, I was looking for adventures," said Shumilov who will bring his tablets to Moscow on Monday. When iPad 2 sales began, the line for outside the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue was more than a mile long.

"No, these people are not crazy, only the first ten customers were crazy," Shumilov said. The new iPad model has several improvements, including a speedier processor, front-and-rear facing cameras and a thinner frame. It also comes in white and black models but the price tag remains the same - from $499 to $829.
