President Medvedev Visits Seliger Camp

09.07.2010

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday visited the camp of the All-Russia Educational Forum at Lake Seliger, halfway between Moscow and St Petersburg, where he was familiarized with a number of innovative projects, ITAR-TASS reports.  As he spoke to participants in the forum, Medvedev said Russia will be an open, well-developed and powerful country.

He addressed foreign participants in the forum in English saying ‘Welcome to Russia’. He added to it he hopes that they are spending time in this country to practice their skills in the Russian language, too.  “The main thing you will understand here is what Russia is in reality, and as the President and a citizen I can tell you it’s a beautiful land,” Medvedev said.

“We’d like this country to be open for everything that’s new,” he told the foreign participants inviting them to visit Russia as frequently as possible. “Representatives of 89 countries have come here and this is great,” Medvedev said. “There must be continuity but there must be changes as well.”

He assured the gathering that “we’re an open society and we’re ready to learn, and it’s never late to learn whether you’re fifteen or twenty or as old as I am,” said Medvedev, 44 at the moment.
