Russian Actor Yury Solomin Turns 75

On Friday, a famous Russian actor and director Yuri Solomin celebrates his 75th birthday, Voice of Russia reports.

Presently Solomin is a Professor of the Schepkin Higher Drama College, of which he himself was a graduate. After graduation in 1957 he joined the Maly Theatre. Since 1988, Solomin has headed the Maly Theatre, becoming artistic director of the oldest theatrical academy, where he sought to continue the great traditions of Russian Theatre, the Russian acting school.

On this stage he has tackled more than 50 roles, and directed many a production. Solomin also created dozens of memorable images on the ‘silver screen’. Truly popular fame came to him with the release of series "The Adjutant of his Excellency," where he played a major role.

Solomin worked with many major directors, including the world-famous Japanese master Akira Kurosawa, with whom the artist forged a friendship after working on the film "Dersu Uzala". Kurosawa highly praised Solomin’s acting skills, insisting the actor could play everything.

Russia's president Dmitry Medvedev has decorated a Russian film star Yuri Solomin, who is marking his 75th anniversary Friday, with the Order of Honor. The president congratulated the actor and noted his talent, which made the movies where he played, classical. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin also sent his congratulations to the actor.
