Choreographer Alexei Ratmansky Presents "Don Quixote" in Amsterdam

18.01.2010

The Dutch National Ballet presents a classic full-length production of Don Quixote. In his new production Russian choreographer Alexei Ratmansky refers back to the first Don Quixote of Marius Petipa in 1869, created for the Bolshoi Ballet.

According to Ratmansky, “it is a modern interpretation of a classic ballet” (Don Quixote was first staged at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1869).

Alexei Ratmansky, the former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet, assumed his five-year position as artist in residence with American Ballet Theater in January 2009. The announcement of his appointment in September 2008 caused almost unprecedented excitement in the ballet world.

Ratmansky's reputation includes his widely acclaimed additions to the Bolshoi repertory of reworked Soviet-era classics like The Bright Stream and The Flames of Paris". The two works he created for the New York City Ballet, Russian Seasons and Concerto DSCH" were a great success.
