Russian universities to accept more than 620,000 state-funded students in 2024

Over 620,000 state-funded places are provided in Russian universities in the next academic year according to the order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. Universities in new regions of Russia will be able to admit about 28,500 students free of charge, the website of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science reports.

Over 19,000 places will be given to bachelor's and specialty degrees at universities in the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, as well as in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The number of budget places in other universities has increased by 1,800 compared to the current academic year.

Over 70% of state-funded places went to regional universities in Russia. The most significant growth is observed among engineering specialties; they will be able to admit 2,000 students more than a year earlier.

An increase is also recorded among medical, mechanical engineering and agricultural studies. In addition, enrollment in such areas as 'informatics and computer science, electricity and heat power engineering, biological sciences, information security and others has also increased.
