St. Petersburg hosts EAEU and CIS summits

Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the EAEU and CIS summits in St. Petersburg, TASS reports. The President gathers his colleagues from the near abroad in the Northern capital every year.

The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC) is scheduled for Monday, December, 25. The forum will sum up the results of Russia's chairmanship in the EAEU. Moscow took over this post on January 1, 2023. Next year it will go to Yerevan. The participants will discuss future plans and sign several important documents, including an agreement on a free trade zone between the EAEU countries and Iran.

An informal meeting of the heads of the CIS states will be held in St. Petersburg. For many years they have been gathering in this city in the last days of the passing year. Putin called such meetings conversations among friends, where they discuss various issues on the regional and international agenda.

The President highly appreciates cooperation within the CIS. According to him, trade turnover is increasing, the growing number of payments are made in national currencies, and the number of new large-scale projects in various fields is also increasing.

In 2024, the CIS chairmanship will pass to Russia. The head of state assured that the program is expected to be very eventful. It includes at least 150 events.
