Festival in honor of Leo Tolstoy is taking place in India

A festival dedicated to the work of Leo Tolstoy has started in the southern part of India, TASS reports. It is dedicated to the anniversary of the classic. 195 years have passed since the birth of the great Russian writer.

The festival is organized by the Russian House in Trivandrum, which is headed by the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation Ratish Nair. He noted that the program is designed for a month. During this time, three seminars will be held. One of them is devoted to Tolstoy's relationship with Mahatma Gandhi, the other is devoted to Tolstoy's influence on contemporary authors. The theme of the third will be children's stories by the Russian writer.

The public will also be shown Karen Shakhnazarov's ''Anna Karenina. The Story of Vronsky''. A photo exhibition about the life of Leo Tolstoy will open in September.

One of the events of the festival program will be the presentation of Tolstoy's collection of children's stories in Malayalam. It is spoken by more than 35 million people in southern India. The book was translated by Ratish Nair.

Participants in the opening ceremony of the festival are sure that Tolstoy's world is a whole universe, his characters live their own lives. Most of the classic books have already been translated into the languages of the peoples of India.

At least 1,000 guests will attend the War and Peace festival, which will be held on August, 26. The venue will be the Tolstoy family estate, Nikolskoye-Vyazemskoye. It is located in the Tula region. The organizers have no doubt that the festival will be interesting for everyone, both adults and children. But especially the holiday will appeal to those who appreciate the great Russian literature, the works of the classics - Tolstoy, Turgenev and Fet.
