Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to pardon the Israeli citizen Naama Issahar. The 27-year old woman was convicted of drug smuggling in Russia, TASS reports.

Issakhar was detained in April 2019 at Sheremetyevo Airport, when she was on a layover between Delhi and Tel Aviv and was waiting for boarding without leaving the transit zone of the airport. A service dog of the customs and anti-smuggling department found about 10 grams of marijuana in her backpack. In November of the same year Issakhar was found guilty of Illegal storage and smuggling of drugs and convicted to 7.5 years in prison.

the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Putin for the release of the Israeli citizen during his official visit to Moscow on Thursday. “I would like to thank you on behalf of the entire people of Israel for your quick decision to release Naama Issahar. This is a thing that touches us all,” he said. Issahar left Russia on the same plane as the Israeli prime minister.
