Russian team won the European Games in Minsk

Russian athletes have won the European Games in Minsk, scoring the overall number of 109 medals, TASS reports. The Russians climbed the highest step of the podium of honor 44 times, won twenty-three silver medals and forty-two bronze ones. The Belarussian sportsmen took the second place, the Ukrainian team closed the top three.

The tournament was held under the More bright victories motto. The award ceremony took place on Sunday, June 30.

The head of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov called the performance of our athletes a great success of the entire national sport. According to him, the Russians create competition in almost all types of programs. There is no doubt that the European Games will turn into a good launching pad for the Olympic awards for many participants.

The Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Pavel Kolobkov noted that the European Games became an excellent test for Russian athletes a year before the Olympics in Tokyo - both physical and emotional.

The games in Minsk became the first international competition for Russian athletes after almost a four-year hiatus, where they could perform under the flag of the country.

President Vladimir Putin supported the team during the last day of the competition ans met the sportsmen in Minsk. «Very nice, beautiful and impressive,” said the Russian leader, speaking about the results of the performance of athletes from Russia.

The Russian leader visited the closing of the tournament. The ceremony was also attended by his colleagues from Armenia and Tajikistan Armen Sarkissian and Emomali Rahmon.
