Russian wrestlers won World Cup after 8-year break

Russian national team became the sevenfold winner of Freestyle Wrestling World Cup. Russian wrestlers became the best at competitions in Yakutia. Last time Russian wrestlers achieved similar success in 2011. Russian team managed to achieve victory even in the absence of the captain, Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev, who had previously been injured, TASS reports. 

Russians won the World Cup for the first time at competitions in Moscow in 1992. The next success came after six years. Russians won their home tournaments six times in Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Vladikavkaz and Makhachkala. Russian wrestlers won World Cup played out of the country only once; they became the best in competitions in the United States in 1998.

At the start of the World Cup, Russians won three victories over wrestlers from Cuba, Japan and Turkey. Successful start brought the hosts of the competition to the final immediately. In decisive battles, the Russians confidently surpassed the team from Iran with a total score of 9:1. It is noted that fans, who provided noise support to Russians, made a significant contribution to the victory. 

Member of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Nenad Lalovic highly appreciated the level of organization of the World Cup, and also noted the "fantastic" atmosphere at the tournament and the impressive opening ceremony of the competition.
