The name of the Grand Prix winner of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition Alexander Kantorov was announced by the artistic director and director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev, TASS reports.

The winner admitted that after 2 round he has lost the feeling of competition and only had that great feeling of performing genius music in beautiful concert halls. Alexander told that his ancestors were Russian immigrants who moved to France before the Russian Revolution. The pianist feels deep connection with Russian music and hopes in future learn Russian language.

Alexander Kantorov is 22, he studies in private French Conservatory. He performs since 16 years old in major European concert halls.

As we reported before, one of the most prestigious competitions among young academic musicians is held since 1958 once every four years.
