International Tchaikovsky Competition starts in Moscow

The International Tchaikovsky Competition opening to take place on Monday evening, June, 19, in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. The competition is held for the 17th time, the Ministry of Culture of Russia reports on its website.

As part of the grand opening, a gala concert will take place with the participation of famous performers from Russia, China and Mongolia. Chinese pianist and composer Liu Shi Kun, Russian pianist Denis Matsuev, Russian opera singer Khibla Gerzmava, bass from Mongolia Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar, Russian performers Alexander Ramm (cello) and Pavel Milyukov (violin) will take the stage.

Most of the concert participants have previously participated or won one of the International Tchaikovsky Competition prozes.

Spectators of the opening concert will also greet the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev, co-chairman of the organizing committee of the competition.

The competition will last until July, 1 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Competitive events in six categories can be watched from any country thanks to online broadcasts on the contest website and the VKontakte page.
