The world famous International Tchaikovsky Competition will be held in Moscow and St. Petersburg from June, 19 to July, 1. The head of the Russian government, Mikhail Mishustin, signed an order to hold the 17th contest, TASS reports.

Pianists, violinists, cellists, vocalists, as well as woodwind and brass players (six categories in total) from Russia and many other countries will compete in the famous competition.

Competitive performances will be held at the leading concert venues in Moscow and St. Petersburg, including the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Mariinsky Theatre.

The organizing committee is represented by artistic director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev, People's Artist of Russia Denis Matsuev and other prominent Russian musicians, as well as representatives of music schools and museums.

The organizers of the competition received almost 750 applications for participation. They came from performers from 41 countries, including China, Japan, the USA, France, the CIS countries and other states.
