Musicians from 23 countries take part in International Tchaikovsky Competition

This year, 236 musicians are participating in the International Tchaikovsky Competition, which started in Moscow, TASS reports. Among them are representatives of 23 countries - European, Asian and others. As Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, clarified, there are also performers from the United States. The Deputy Prime Minister is sure that this is clear evidence that art is beyond politics, and music knows no boundaries.

The competition opened the day before, on June, 19. The famous pianist Denis Matsuev, world opera star Khibla Gerzmava, maestro Valery Gergiev took the stage. Chinese pianist Liu Shi Kun, Mongolian opera singer Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar and others also performed.

Prior to the concert, members of the jury and guests of honor laid flowers at the monument to Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

This year, the competition is complemented by the Tchaikovsky Country online project. About three million users have already joined it.

As Russkiy Mir reported, the competition has already become the 17th in a row, it will last until July, 1 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Competitive events in six categories can be watched from any country in the world thanks to online broadcasts on the contest website and the VKontakte project community. Interviews with participants, diaries of creative competitions and other interesting events will also be posted there.
