Singer Zinaida Tsarenko won Grand Prix of Tchaikovsky Competition

The main award of the International Tchaikovsky Competition went to the Russian singer, TASS reports. The Grand Prix was awarded to opera soloist Zinaida Tsarenko. The award was presented to her by Valery Gergiev, co-chairman of the organizing committee of the competition.

The solemn award ceremony took place the day before, on July, 2, as part of a gala concert. The laureates performed on the stage of the St. Petersburg Mariinsky Theatre. The maestro highly appreciated the level of the contest participants.

Zinaida Tsarenko was born in 1993 in Khabarovsk. She received her education at the Music College in Novosibirsk, then continued her studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Last year she began performing at the Mariinsky Theatre.

The participants of the gala concert were laureates in six nominations. Among the winners are musicians from Russia and South Korea.

Russkiy Mir reported that in total 236 musicians participated in the International Tchaikovsky Competition this year. Among them are representatives of 23 countries - European, Asian and others. 

The competition became the 17th in a row. Competitive events in six categories could be seen from any country thanks to online broadcasts on the contest website and the VKontakte project community.
