The opening of the Russian Cinema Festival has taken place in Singapore, TASS reports. Local spectators are going to watch the Russian cinema on such a large scale for the first time. The festival is organized within the national program In the Family Circle.

According to Alexander Kovtunts, who heads the program, many countries of Southeast Asia are not familiar with the Russian culture. The week of Russian cinema will help to fill this gap, he said.

The program includes five features released over the past three years. Pavel Chukhrai's “Cold Tango”, Soldatik Soldier by Viktoria Fanasiutina and The Last Warrior by Dmitriy Dyachenko. The comedy I'm losing weight will be presented to the public by screenwriter Konstantin Maier. Another comedy,Once upon a time, will open the festival.

The organizers said they were not sure the features they had selected would interest the viewers but, fortunately, the closer the date of the opening came, the more obvious became the interest of the audience.

Kovtunets assured that no empty seats were left for the screenings. He expressed the hope that such film festivals would become a tradition and would be held at least once a year.
