Negotiations between the Presidents of Russia and Austria, Vladimir Putin and Alexander van der Bellen, were held in a businesslike and friendly atmosphere, the Kremlin website reports.

According to Russian leader, the bilateral relations that bind Moscow and Vienna have been based on the principles of mutual respect and good neighborliness for many years. Vladimir Putin noted that a strong political dialogue has been established between the countries. And the negotiations in Sochi have become another evidence of the interest in strengthening contacts of both parties. During the meeting, it was possible to comprehensively discuss a set of issues relating to Russian-Austrian cooperation, and to determine specific plans for the future.

A year later, these days will mark the 65th anniversary of signing the treaty between the four countries - winners of World War II and the Austrian side to restore an independent and democratic Austria. Vladimir Putin called the document one of the central elements of the post-war structure in Europe, which guaranteed the neutral status of Austria and its peaceful development.

Vienna is one of the most important European economic partners of our country. And energy plays a huge role here. Russia has been supplying Austria with energy resources for more than 50 years without interruptions.

Relations in cultural and humanitarian sphere are developing very actively. This year is a Cross Year of Youth Exchanges. Next year will unite Russian and Austrian literature and theater. Civil society cooperation is developing.

Leaders of the two countries met with the participants of the constituent meeting of Sochi Dialogue Forum, which is aimed at strengthening ties between the citizens of our countries in science, art, sports and education. Van der Bellen is convinced that the forum will contribute to the development of relations between Austria and Russia. He also invited his Russian counterpart to visit Salzburg next year, where they will celebrate the centenary anniversary of the famous festival.
