Famous Korean Opera Singer celebrated his friendship with Russia on stage

The Music tied us up concert of the well-known Korean opera singer Lee Young Song in the Korean city of Incheon became the milestone of an event dedicated to the friendship and cooperation between Russia and South Korea. The guests also had the chance to taste the dishes and drinks of traditional Russian cuisine, according to the website of the Coordinating Council of Russian compatriots in the Republic of Korea. The part of the collected funds will be directed to charity, in particular to help the Koreans living on Sakhalin island.

Lee Young Song is a brilliant singer and a wonderful example of cooperation in education and culture between Russia and South Korea. The soloist of the Seoul Opera studied singing art in Russia - he is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory and the winner of many vocal competitions, including the Romansiada competition. 

Lee Young Song told Russkiy Mir that he got interested in Russian music and culture 30 years ago. Russian singers came to South Korea for the Olympic Games in 1988. They brought the record of Russian folk music, which later came to the hands of the singer. He listened to Iz-za ostrova na stryezhyen (Stenka Razin song) and immediately wanted to perform it. He began to learn the Russian language and, when the opportunity presented itself, went to study in Moscow. Other Korean musicians also performed at the event. The audience listened to the accordion and balalaika, which are gaining popularity in South Korea.

Incheon is the third largest city after Seoul and Busan. It is twinned with three Russian cities - Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg and Kronstadt.
