Modern Russia maintains its stability due to the tolerance, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 18 at the Valdai Discussion Club, RIA Novosti reports.

The Russian leader recalled that the country long developed as a multinational state. Then it acquired a multi-religious status.

Russia has existed for a thousand years as it was originally based on tolerance to all nations and all confessions. "This is the basis of Russia's entity", Vladimir Putin said.

He also noted that today the residents of the country need to strengthen their national identity. Our culture and our history make us to be who we are now.

Russia unites more than 160 nations and the country values ​​this.
