The gala ceremony of opening the Cross-Cultural Year of Russia and Japan with participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was held in Moscow, according to official Kremlin website.

Russian-Japanese Cross Years are conducted for the first time in history. They were initiated by our Japanese colleagues, and we supported this idea, of course,” Vladimir Putin said.

According to the Russian leader, the cross-cultural year would help developing contacts between the two countries. Besides, he expressed hope that its activities would facilitate increasing trust between Russians and Japanese.

Vladimir Putin is sure that at the result of the cross-cultural year, contacts in various fields would be activated. The Head of State added that it would eventually lead to building up a solid basis for bilateral cooperation.

He has explained that an extensive program is also planned at Russian Far-Eastern regions. This is natural, as Japan has been investing in these regions for many years.

According to Vladimir Putin, this is a positive trend to sustain and advance in other Regions of the Russian Federation. Besides, it is necessary to set a closer counteraction between the social organizations, scientists, figures of culture of Russia and Japan.

Note that the Cross-Cultural Year of Russia and Japan promises success. It includes various contact meetings between the Parliaments’ members, scientific, student and youth exchanges. Much attention will be paid to development of tourist exchanges and culture. There will be large-scale road tours of Russian circus troupes, extensive animation program, days of Russian cinema and weeks of Russian gastronomic tourism.

Traditional projects continue, such as festival of the Russian Culture, first of all.
