Putin and Merkel agreed to continue settling Donbass crisis

Russian President Vladimir Putin held phone talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, RIA Novosti informs. The two countries’ leaders have discussed the situation at the Southeast of Ukraine in detail. They talked about readiness to promote work of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine at the contact line. Besides, the heads of state underlined importance of observing the Easter truce by both parties and agreed one more time on the absence of the alternative solution to the crisis, other than sticking to the Minsk Agreements.

Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel touched upon the question of possible foundation of the UN Mission for OSCE Observers’ Security. Besides, they expressed assuredness in necessity to continue prisoner exchange process based on “all for all” principle in Donbass.

Russian President and German Chancellor agreed to develop mutual activities on settling the Ukrainian crisis in the Normandy format.

In the course of their phone conversation, leaders exchanged opinions on the situation in Syria with consideration of all accusations addressed to the official Damascus by the Western countries of using the chemical weapons. Vladimir Putin paid special attention to unacceptability of provocations and speculations on this account.
