Russia, Iran and Turkey advocate preservation of Syrian territorial integrity

Situation in Syria became a subject of trilateral negotiations held on April 4, in Ankara, according to RIA Novosti. Leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkey – Vladimir Putin, Hassan Rouhani and Recep Erdogan took part in these talks.

As per the Russian President Vladimir Putin they were held in a business-friendly atmosphere and were very constructive. In his words, the heads of three states exchanged opinions on all key aspects of the situation, discussed further measures for stabilization of the situation in Syria for a longer perspective.

Vladimir Putin expressed assuredness that agreements reached in Ankara are very important. He has stressed out that the meeting participants intend to assist in reinforcing of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.

“Important agreements reached at the talks are reflected in the mutual statement derived at the end of this meeting. It is noteworthy that this document emphasizes the firm adherence of Russia, Iran and Turkey to reinforcement of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” Putin said.

Besides, the countries plan to continue and expand interaction on this question, including cooperation in the Astana’s format. Russian President has reminded that the talks in Kazakhstan have many times proved their efficiency.

Parties agreed on provision of the humanitarian aid to the Syrian population. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called the humanitarian situation in Syria awful.

The mutual statement resulting from the talks says that the Astana format is the only efficient international initiative which helped decrease the level of violence in Syria, contributed to setting peace and stability at this territory and gave an impulse to Geneva talks to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
