Court of Arbitration justifies 28 Russian sportsmen

02.02.2018

Appeals by Russian athletes with regard to the decision of the International Olympic Committee about lifetime bans from the Olympic Games have been satisfied. It was a decision of Court of Arbitration for Sports. The athletes were accused of anti-doping rules’ infringements at Winter Olympics in Sochi held in 2014.

Court has determined that the results of Russian athletes at 2014 Games should be restored due to the absence of the factual anti-doping rules’ violation. Bobsledders, Skeleton sliders, skiers, ice skaters, sliders and other sportsmen were among the justified sportsmen.

11 people more were justified only partially. The lifetime ban was substituted by miss of the Olympics in South Korea for them.

Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov has called this verdict quite fair.

Note that in case of justification, the national sportsmen earlier banned by the International Olympic Committee, will be able to take part in the forthcoming Olympics.

As the Russkiy Mir Foundation has reported earlier, the national team of Russia was banned from participation at the Winter Olympics in South Korea. Russian Deputy Prime Minister for Sports Vitaly Mutko and some other sports officials have been also banned from the Olympics for life.
