International Olympic Committee bans clean Russian sportsmen Shipulin, Ahn and Ustyugov

24.01.2018

Some world-known Russian athletes such as biathlete Anton Shipulin, short-track speed skater Viktor Ahn and cross-country skier Sergei Ustyugov missed the Olympics potential participants’ list. According to Vice President of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov, they were banned despite the fact that they have not been involved in any doping cases, IA R-Sport informs.

He has reminded that their names have never been spotted in any of doping scandals. All doping tests they have passed for their long career in sports prove that they have always remained clean.

Nevertheless Vice President has emphasized that they were not included into the number of potential participants of the Olympics in South Korea

The International Olympic Committee did not see the point to comment on the mass media publications that Viktor Ahn was banned from the coming Olympics. The Committee has just responded that it would reveal the list in due course.

Stanislav Pozdnyakov has added that the right of all clean sportsmen for participation in PyeongChang was believed to be secure. It is pity that many leading athletes from Russia were not included into the list of potential candidates.

It is worth reminding that the International Olympic Committee has cut down a number of Russian sportsmen to go to PyeongChang from 500 to 389.

Now a specialized committee should define the final list of participants. Among the main requirements to the sportsmen are a necessary of doping tests and absence of involvement into the doping stories in the past. The IOC representatives have claimed that they have looked at all sportsmen individually and selected a group of clean sportsmen. The list of accompanying persons has been cut down considerably as well.

As the Russkiy Mir Foundation reported earlier, The Olympic Committee made a decision to ban Russian national team because of doping infringements. Only immaculately clean sportsmen were allowed to participate at the Olympics.
