UN concerned on increased number of journalists expelled from Ukraine

Flickr/Jeff EatonTrend of expelling foreign media representatives from Ukraine is constantly growing, UN experts note. This statement was made in the report of UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, RIA Novosti informs.

Experts remark that this is a worrying tendency. Besides, this document calls journalists working in the conflict zone of Donbass propagandists and uses this pretext to expel them from the country.

Authors of the presentation underlined that any limitation of freedoms and free way of expressing opinions should have legal purposes. Kiev should be very careful in application of any limitations based on international standards including European Court practices, the presentation advises.

Arrests and extradition of Russian journalists from Ukraine became frequent. This is happening almost permanently. As the Russkiy Mir Foundation reported earlier, Russian journalist Igor Petrashevich was accused of writing biased articles for Russian mass media. He was expelled from Ukraine and put into the list of personas non-grata. He was banned to enter Ukraine for three years, Earlier, NTV correspondent Vyacheslav Nemyshev was detained in Kiev in October.
