Opera star Dmitri Hvorostovsky celebrates 55th birthday

The future Golden Voice of Russia was born in Krasnoyarsk in 1962. His father was a music lover who played piano, sang and collected opera music vinyls. Dmitry studied at the Krasnoyarsk School of Arts and made his debut at Krasnoyarsk Opera House. The operatic baritone has gained the world fame once he won the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 1989.

Since then he has performed the principal parts at virtually every major opera house, including La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Mariinsky Theater.

Today the forefront of leading baritones in the world receives many congratulations. According to Kremlin website, the telegram from Russian President Vladimir Putin says "Let me heartily congratulate you on your birthday and express my sincere admiration by your talent, the strength of mind and firmness."

Let us remember, in 2015 the singer was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After a long absence he has made the stage appearance on the Toronto City Opera stage in the spring of this year.
