Marine festival in Beirut is dedicated to Aivazovsky anniversary

RossotrudnichestvoAnniversary of the legendary Russian marine artist Ivan Aivazovsky is marked in the capital of Lebanon by a large-scale Marine Festival organized by Russian Center of science and culture with participation of Coordinating Council of Compatriots, Rossotrudnichestvo informs.

Gala ceremony of the festival opening was held at the territory of resort complex Djissir which gathered more than seventy professional and amateur artists. They represent twenty different countries.

Plein-airs were organized for them. Each artist could recreate Aivazovsky paintings in their own style. The best works will be selected for the exhibition timed with the end of the festival.

Author of The Ninth Wave and other pictures dedicated to the marine nature was born in Feodosia in 1817. Russkiy Mir Foundation has advised earlier that exhibitions in honor of the 200th anniversary of the greatest marine artist were organized by the Tretyakov Gallery and Russian Museum. More than six hundred people visited exhibition in Moscow.
