Russian compatriots celebrate Russia Day in Canada, TASS reports. It has traditionally begun with the state reception organised by Embassy of Russia in Ottawa. Russian community members and ambassadors from other countries were present at the event. According to the Russian Ambassador Alexander Darichev, this day is a symbol of Russia’s unity in all its diversity. Also he has reminded that this year Russia and Canada celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relationship.

The Russian Ambassador has granted the Pushkin medal to Svetlana Rufanova, who has opened Russian library in Toronto. For the last 15 years it functions not just like a library but also like a Russian cultural centre that plays an important role in the Russian community life.

Day of Russia celebration entered list of Canadian celebrations recently. Just two years ago there were few simple festives in city parks, but now Day of Russia is turned into Russian Culture festival with thousands participants. This year festives will spread to Montreal and Vancouver.
