Pushkin Readings took place in Brussels

Day of Russian Language was celebrated in Belgium with Pushkin Readings for the 8th time, Belgian Federation of Russian bfro.beLanguage informs. International Pushkin Foundation and Williams Foundation in Laeken organized the event.

Participants have gathered around Pushkin memorial that was raised in Laeken district to mark the centenary of Pushkin's birthday. Poems were recited in Russian, French, Italian, Flemish languages.

Kids from Danza Znaika studio were reading the poems. Violinist Denist Dostan played the fragment from Tchaikovsky's opera based on Pushkin's novel in verse Eugene Onegin. Slavist and interpreter Camille de Genesee dedicated his lecture to relations between Pushkin and his colleagues.

The poet has never been in Brussels but his direct descendants currently live there. Alexander and Maria were present at the event, honoring the memory of their great ancestor.
