Lyubov Yaroshenko addressed a request to new US President Donald Trump to set her son Konstantin free. The Russian pilot serves a 20-year prison sentence in the American Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix, Izvestia Newspaper reports.

Yaroshenko was put to jail for a false accusation of drugs’ delivery to the US. He was seized at the territory of a third state, Liberia, and handed over to the American legal bodies in 2010. US court of appeals refused Konstantin’s appellate review in April 2016.

His mother confessed that Donald Trump’s victory at the elections gave her one more chance for her son to return home eventually. “I am on my knees before you asking you for mercy and saving my son’s life,” she wrote in her letter.

Together with her letter, she passed a 61-page document containing the evidence of Konstantin Yaroshenko’s innocence. Her message was sent by DHL and through diplomatic channels.

Mother is very much worried about her son’s health. According to her, he was healthy before imprisonment, though, at present he has a bunch of diseases, among them are very serious ones. It is very hard, if not impossible, to get adequate medical aid in prison.

It should be mentioned that Lyubov Yaroshenko has already addressed the former US President Barack Obama, but an answer did not follow.

As per Russkiy Mir Foundation, earlier Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation received a copy of appeal to return Konstantin Yaroshenko to the Motherland written by his lawyer. This issue is considered in accordance with the Russian Federation legislation and the regulations of the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons dated 1983.
