Russian theatres bring to stage Pushkin, Ostrovsky in 8 countries

Russian theaters brought their performances to the residents of eight countries, the Moscow Compatriot House reports. Performances in 12 cities of Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and South Ossetia took place with the assistance of the Russian Ministry of Culture.

Some of performances were based on two plays by the famous Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky; his bicentenary anniversary was celebrated in 2023. Directors chose famous comedies ''Forest'' and ''Wolves and Sheep'' for their productions.

The shows have taken place in 15 theaters over the last four months. 

The work of Alexander Pushkin was widely represented. The 225th anniversary of his birth to be widely celebrated in 2024.

Next year, Russian theaters abroad are going to stage 30 performances with the assistance of the Russian Ministry of Culture. According to the head of the department, Olga Lyubimova, productions are chosen jointly. Theaters offer what is closest to them, what is interesting to their audience.
