The anniversary of the Austrian diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) was celebrated in Vienna, TASS reports. It turned 60 years old. The diocese was founded in the fall of 1962. The celebrations in 2022 were prevented by COVID restrictions. It was decided to postpone them for a year.

A liturgy was held in St. Nicholas Cathedral in Vienna. The service was led by Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk. He was joined by Bishop Alexy of Vienna and Austria, Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany, and Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe.

After the service, Metropolitan Anthony presented Russian Ambassador Dmitry Lyubinsky with the Order of Seraphim of Sarov, 3rd degree.

The Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was opened in Vienna almost 125 years ago.

The opening of the Silent Sermon exhibition in the Austrian capital was timed to coincide with the date. It is located in the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo. Among the exhibits are 12 exact copies of icons created by icon painters of the Novgorod school in the 13th - 16th centuries - during its heyday.

The copies of the images were printed on boards with ultraviolet inks; they completely replicate the dimensions and features of the originals, including minor flaws in the icons that have survived to this day.
