Since the beginning of last year, about 80,000 people have returned to Russia as part of a program to assist the voluntary resettlement of compatriots. This was announced by the head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev, TASS reports. In total, more than 1,1 million people used the program. Most of them chose to live in the Central, Volga, Siberian and Ural federal districts.

The minister noted that in recent years the state has done a lot to improve this process. For example, program participants no longer need to obtain a temporary residence permit before applying for citizenship. These legislative changes will come into effect in autumn.

The process of returning home for compatriots should be simple, quick and understandable, Kolokoltsev believes. He stressed that the damage to national security must not be allowed.

The resettlement program was launched in 2006. Most of all, it is of interest to compatriots from neighboring countries, including Ukraine and Moldova.
