The anniversary of the liberation of Italy from fascism was celebrated in Genoa, TASS reports. On the eve of April, 25, several dozen people took to the streets carrying portraits of their ancestors who fought the enemy in the ranks of the Resistance. The organizers said that they took the Russian Immortal Regiment campaign as a model and named it the same.

The participants note that the great merit in the liberation from the Nazis belongs to the partisans. According to them, the Italian authorities are unworthy of remembering the heroes of the past, because they support NATO, betraying the memory of the fight against the enemy.

Russian compatriots joined the Italians, together the procession participants laid flowers at the Monumental Bridge, where a memorial plaque with the names of foreign partisans who died for the liberation of Genoa was installed. Among the fallen heroes were Soviet soldiers who were captured in Italy, fled and then fought as part of partisan detachments. The inhabitants of Genoa, which was liberated by the partisans, cherish the memory of their feat. The official ceremony was attended by representatives of the city authorities and the National Association of Italian Partisans.

At the beginning of the week, a rally in honor of the liberation of Genoa was organized by anti-fascists. About 250 people took part in it, some carried the slogans ''No to arms to Ukraine'' and the flags of Donbass. In addition, a banner was hung out on one of the central streets: ''There were Russians with partisans in the mountains, not Americans.''

The Russian Consulate General plans to hold a whole series of events dedicated to Victory Day. The Immortal Regiment will pass through the places of partisan exploits. Its participants will pay tribute to the memory at the graves of Soviet soldiers. It is planned to open a bench at the monument to an unknown Soviet officer who was shot by the Nazis in the vicinity of Mazone. Traditionally, the venue for the central event will be one of the Genoese cemeteries, where the Hero of the Soviet Union and Italy Fedor Poletaev is buried.

Solemn laying of flowers at the graves of Soviet soldiers will also take place in Milan, Turin, Rome and other cities.
