Russian female saber fencing team wins Olympics

The Russian team won gold in the women's team sabre fencing competition in the Tokyo Olympic Games on Saturday. Also on Saturday, Russian rifle shooters has distinguished themselves. Yulia Zykova and Yulia Karimova won silver and bronze awards, respectively, reports TASS. France took silver, and South Korea claimed bronze.

The Russian national fencing team has proved again that there is no equal in the women's saber. In the final, the Russian quartet defeated the French team in a bitter struggle (45:41). Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakova, Olga Nikitina and Svetlana Sheveleva have become Olympic champions.

Pozdnyakova received the second gold at the Tokyo Games. Earlier she became the winner in individual competitions, snatching victory from her national team-mate Sofia Velikaya. These victories, as well as the gold of the foil fencer team, allowed the Russian national team to win the Olympic championship in fencing well ahead of the schedule. In total they have three gold and three silver medals, as well as the bronze.

Russian athletes won 37 awards, including eleven gold by the end of the first Olympic week. Russia takes fourth place In the unofficial medal count. 

The Summer Olympics in Japan will run until August, 8.
