Tests of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus infection have started in Venezuela, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the country's President Nicolas Maduro, 2,000 people were selected for the trials. He added that later a shipment of the drug would be delivered to Venezuela from China. After the results of the tests of both drugs are received and they are approved by the World Health Organization, it will be possible to begin mass vaccinations. The head of state added that, most likely, it would start in the spring.
It is planned that the first vaccinations will be given to doctors and teachers. Elderly people and those with chronic diseases are also on the priority list.
The son and sister of the President of Venezuela will take part in the clinical trials. He himself will be vaccinated with the start of mass vaccination.
As Russkiy Mir reported, more than 50 countries are interested in the Russian vaccine.. According to Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), there have been many requests, many countries want to join clinical trials. Venezuela is the first non-CIS country to test it.
