Residents of Emden (Germany), representatives of the city administration, local parliamentarians and other interested persons visited the cemetery of Soviet prisoners of war. It is located in Tannenhausen, which is close to Emden, according to the Glas naroda newspaper.

Arkhangelsk schoolchildren have been coming to Emden in the summer for almost 30 years. They meet with their peers from the sister city at a summer camp for teenagers. They study the history of the Great Patriotic War, search for the descendants of the fallen soldiers, visit burial sites located in Germany and France.

This year, traditional events had to be canceled due to restrictions aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus infection. Children from Arkhangelsk could not come to Germany. But the Emden authorities decided to visit the cemetery in Tannenhausen themselves.

The delegation was met by Alvin de Boer, a former school teacher. He helped schoolchildren form Aurich to research the fate of Russian soldiers held in a prisoner of war camp in Tannenhausen. Many of them died due to hunger, disease, hard work and abuse. The results of their work can be found at the information stands. For the convenience of Russian visitors, the texts have been translated into Russian.
