A monument to Joseph Stalin in Komarovo (Czech Republic) was estimated at 700 euros. This is the initial cost of the sculpture, established by the authorities of the city, which is located fifty kilometers from Prague. The monument was dismantled over thirty years ago, TASS reports.

The monument was erected in the city, the population of which today amounts to 2,500 people, in 1951. This is a three-meter high sculpture of Stalin standing in full growth, dressed in a generalissimo overcoat. For 38 years, the monument stood on the main square of the city, and in 1989, with the fall of the Communist Party in the country, it was removed from the pedestal.

The auction, during which local authorities plan to sell the monument, will be held online. Until April 30, the municipality is awaiting applications from those wishing to purchase the sculpture.

The representatives of the Komarov administration assured that the sale of the monument is not politically motivated and is not related to the recent dismantling of the sculpture of Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev in Prague. The auction is held in order to replenish the city budget.

It is not the first time in the Czech Republic that they sell monuments to Soviet figures. In March, a monument to Vladimir Lenin was sold in the country; the sculpture went to one of the German left-wing political organizations.
