Russia’s MFA: US strike on Baghdad airport will have grave consequences

The Russian Foreign Ministry is concerned about the US Air Force’s attack on Baghdad’s airport, during which General Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, was killed, the ministry’s website writes. Russian diplomats believe that this will lead to an escalation of tension in the region.

The Foreign Ministry noted that such actions did not contribute to solving the most complicated problems that have accumulated in the Middle East. The department fears the grave consequences of what has happened for regional peace and stability.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova emphasized that Washington was only interested in changing the balance of power in the Middle East and did not care about the global reaction to the attack.

Earlier it became known that the United States attacked two targets in Baghdad. As a result, General Qasem Soleimani was killed.
