The difficult situation in the international arena could not prevent the ongoing development of relations between Moscow and Vienna, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. He stated this during his speech after negotiations with his Austrian counterpart Karin Kneissl, the website of Foreign Ministry reports.

According to Russian Foreign Minister, Austria occupies an important place in economic cooperation with Russia. No so-called sanctions led to withdrawal of Austrian businessmen from Russian market. Volumes of investments from both sides continue to increase.

Bilateral cultural exchanges and cooperation in cultural and humanitarian sphere are developing. Cross Year of music and cultural routes took place with great success; bilateral Commission of Historians works. 2019 has become Russian-Austrian Year of Youth Exchanges. Numerous concerts, exhibitions, and art festivals will take place within the frameworks of it. The parties agreed on the mutual issuance of free visas in the most simplified mode for participants and organizers of events during the Year of Youth Exchanges.

As part of today's talks, a joint statement was signed on the creation of Russian-Austrian Sochi Dialogue Public Forum. Its first meeting will take place soon.

Sergey Lavrov expressed hope that the discussions that continue in the OSCE, and in the context of our relations with Western partners, will ensure that the mechanism in field of strategic stability, which has provided security in Euro-Atlantic for many decades, will continue to function without failures.
