Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the lack of respect towards the UN Washington’s refusal to issue American visas to members of the Russian parliament who were about to go overseas to the UN General Assembly session. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed outrage at the actions of the American authorities, RIA Novosti reported.

Permission to enter the United States was not granted to the head of the international committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev. Several more deputies were not allowed into the country either.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the United States refuses to fulfill its international obligations as a country hosting the world organization.

The words of American diplomats who claim that they cannot issue visas due to technical difficulties do not stand up to criticism, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, Maria Zakharova called the statement that Russia was late with the submission of documents a lie. She noted that the documents were sent exactly on time specified by the US Embassy. At the same time, the same documents submitted in advance were returned because they were “filed early”.

Zakharova stressed that this was "another act of neglect of the rights of sovereign states and international organizations." It will certainly become a subject of discussion during negotiations between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. In addition, a representative of the American embassy was called to the Foreign Ministry, where he was handed a note of protest.
