The photos tell visitors about the history of Russian folk costume. At first, a collection of photographs was created to capture the costumes of various provinces of the country. Today it has become a large-scale phenomenon and a source for studying the history of the costume.

The collection began in Moscow Museum of Antiquities, which Natalia Shabelskaya created in the late 19th century. She collected more than 20,000 items, including costumes and household items made of wood, bone, ceramics, metal and glass. The collection has been shown in Russia and abroad several times. They photographed the costumes of Shabelskaya’s daughter, which acted as photo models.
