Exhibitions, presentations and master classes from the best Russian artists were included in the program of the Discovering Russia – 2019 art project, which was presented at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in New Delhi. The project is dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the journey of Afanasy Nikitin to India, according to the Rossotrudnichestvo website.

The events of the projects will take place in a number of cities in Rajasthan and West Bengal states, as well as in the Indian capital New Delhi. The artworks by Russian painters will show to local art lovers the mastery of painters and their areas of interest. The paintings also tell Indians the story of Russia - its nature, architecture and history. The canvases depict landscapes, as well as historical monuments and spiritual centers of Russia.

Founder and director of the St. Petersburg Center for Humanitarian Programs Vitaly Vasilyev, heads of creative associations and galleries in India, artists, art historians, critics, as well as university students from New Delhi and journalists took part in the presentation of the project. According to Vasilyev, the project is aimed at bringing together Russian and Indian nations. He also called on the art of language to recall the need to preserve historical monuments and nature.

In 2018, St. Petersburg Center for Humanitarian Programs put into life the international project Russian Atlantis, which allowed more than four hundred artists from different countries of the world to visit fifteen cities of Russia with creative expeditions. Artists from India, who participated in the project, noted that it had helped them to get to know Russian culture and people, who live in the outback of the country.

Tver merchant Afanasy Nikitin set out on a six-year business journey to Persia, India and the Turkey in 1468. Nikitin described his impressions in Going beyond three seas, which became a monument to Russian literature.
